Skipton Freemasons shed light on their order

FREEMASONS in the Craven and Mawsis Lodges are hosting a Festival of Light and Flowers this weekend.

They are throwing open the doors of the Masonic Hall on Sackville Street, Skipton, to show off an array of floral arrangements, which depict the meaning of light and its importance in every day life.

All the displays are the work of wives and friends of Lodge members and are being co-ordinated by Fiona Newhouse and Eileen Proud.

The festival has two main aims – to give an insight into freemasonry and to raise money to enable members throughout Yorkshire to make sizeable donations to both local and national charities.

The Skipton lodges have recently made donations to the children’s ward, the physiotherapy department, the cardiac unit and the Clear Campaign at Airedale General Hospital, SCAD, the Samaritans, the Deaf and Manorlands.

The festival will be opened by the Calendar Girls at a sell-out preview tonight and will be open to the public from 10am to 6pm tomorrow (Saturday) and from 10am to 2pm on Sunday.

Admission is £2 and refreshments will be available. Lodge members will be available to answer any questions and give tours of the hall.

All flower displays will be auctioned off on Sunday.
